Tienanmen Remembered -- 20 Years : Jack Gabel's (world premiere) 'Farewell to Wang Wei' marked the 20th anniversary of the 1989 Tienanmen Square democracy demonstration tragedy. Cascadia Composers presented Portland Vocal Consort, The Dickson String Quartet, soprano Nancy Wood with piano accompanist, Jeff Winslow in a concert of music and poetry.

David LaFlamme performing music of It's a Beautful Day at the Oregon Country Fair : A highlight of the 2008 Oregon Country Fair was legendary David LaFlamme and his band. His 'It's a Beautiful Day' was part of the soundtrack of my youth. I've always assumed that White Bird Clinic, which provides free medical care to fair-goers, named itself after David's signature song. I was at the concert just to enjoy. However, I found myself at the fence right in front of the stage. How could I not shoot? Any fan of It's a Beautiful Day would have been blown away by this concert. As a college student, I could afford one roll of Ektachrome 160 per show, along with push-processing a stop or two. I'd run down the aisle to shoot near the front of the stage -- until the ushers would make me return to my seat.

Jamming for Peace : Music From Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Beyond. In the 1980s, Iran and Iraq were at war for eight years and hundreds of thousands of people from both sides became victims of the devastating struggle. The significance of this concert is that master musicians from Iran and Iraq joined a couple of Jewish Americans and others to perform for PEACE, emphasizing the fact that people are at peace with each other, regardless of what their governments are doing.
